She thanks Mr. Markham for the copy of "The Man with the Hoe". She will tell the firm to send Mr. Markham $10.00 for it. She states that her volume is small but, strenuous. She says that she will use the poems that she has taught successfully. Mrs. Cable is going to the hospital for treatment. She says that they wil all be glad to see Mr. and Mrs. Markham, when they come by. About 2 years ago, she gave a copy of "Lincoln and other poems" to Mrs. Cable. She read them at the time but, has not had the chance to teach them yet.

Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
